Company Description

SHEAR-TEST Bulk Solids Laboratory is your specialized partner for measuring rheological and physical properties of powders and bulk solids. With over 30 years of industry experience, we offer sound expertise and reliable measurement services.

Over Three Decades of Bulk Solids Expertise
My professional career in bulk solids technology began over 30 years ago at Montan Technologie, where I developed evaluation software for experimental silos and first investigated the correlation between flow properties and rheological measurement data. This early experience laid the foundation for my in-depth understanding of the complex relationships in bulk solids technology.

In the following years, I worked closely with one of the leading researchers in the field of bulk solids technology. There I was responsible for the automation of measuring devices for physical bulk solids analysis and further developed the associated evaluation software. In parallel, I created technical documentation and contributed to the development of ASTM standards.

Another focus of my work was international customer service: from worldwide commissioning of measuring equipment to technical service on site. Particularly formative was the work on optimizing silo designs and discharge bottoms, where theoretical knowledge was directly implemented into practical solutions.

Foundation for Individual Solutions
This decades-long, intensive engagement with the flow properties of powders and their process engineering applications enables me today to understand even complex bulk solids challenges and develop customized solutions. The know-how acquired in research and practice forms the basis for our current services.

Your Partner for Bulk Solids Solutions
Today we focus on the professional analysis of bulk solids and support companies from various industries in optimizing their processes. Our goal is to help you solve flow problems and optimally design your equipment with our many years of experience and specialized expertise.

Measurement Services and Liability

Our bulk solids measurements are carried out according to recognized technical standards and are performed professionally and to the best of our knowledge and belief. The bulk solids measurements for yield locus, wall friction, compression density and time consolidation are performed with standardized shear testers according to ASTM D6682. The measurement results reflect the physical properties of the tested samples at the time of measurement.

Scope of Application and Limitations: The measurement results apply to the tested samples under the respective test conditions. Variations in material composition, particle size distribution, moisture or other properties can significantly influence the flow parameters. For critical applications or safety-relevant constructions, additional investigations and a qualified engineering assessment by a competent planner are required.

Calculation Methods: The calculation methods used are partly based on proven empirical approaches and simplifying assumptions. They serve for initial assessment and orientation. For the final silo design according to DIN EN 1991-4, detailed structural planning by a qualified structural engineer, taking into account all relevant load cases and safety concepts, is essential.

Safety Notes: For safety-relevant applications (e.g., personnel protection, environmental protection, critical infrastructure), the measurement results must be evaluated by a competent engineer. The responsibility for applying the results and complying with applicable safety regulations lies with the client or the planning engineer.

Confidentiality: We treat all information and findings provided to us strictly confidentially. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are naturally recognized. Your data and measurement results are used exclusively for the agreed purpose.

Liability: Liability for indirect and direct damages from the application of measurement results is excluded to the extent legally permissible. This does not apply to damages from injury to life, body or health, as well as damages from intentional or grossly negligent breaches of duty.
